Velocity Comics Monthly DRAW!
April 6th, 2006 by WarrenSo as Roberto pointed out this months prompt is to draw a version of Catwoman, any media, as long as it’s no bigger than 9″x12″. I got a bit behind on some other projects so didn’t get to do any color steps with it. But it did feel kind of good just to do a simple inked image. Anyway as a pretense of some kind of process I’ll say this. Anything I draw goes through a number of evolutions. A handful of thumbnails, will lead into a handful of crap drawings, which *hopefully* get refined a bit into tighter more realized pencils.

Then really I just ink them. I use a .35 mm rapidograph to do all the fine detailed stuff, and a brush for the rest. I kind of go back and forth until I feel I’m totally sick of it done.

This is a relatively faithful version of Darwyn Cooke’s redesign of Catwoman from a couple years back.

I really like the way this turned out. The details on the building are great. The awkwardness of her position leaves a few questions…Was she pushed, thrown, or did she jump?
